Plews Shadley Racher and Braun LLP is pleased to announce Joanne R. Sommers and Andrea K. Townsend have been admitted to the firm’s partnership, effective January 1, 2022.

PSRB’s Managing Partner, Greg Gotwald, says “The firm could not be more excited to have these intelligent, hard-working attorneys join the partnership. We have no doubt their exceptional work for clients to date will carry on for years to come.”

Joanne Sommers represents businesses and individuals in both litigation and transactional settings. Joanne’s broad foundation allows her litigation practice to inform her transactional practice, and vice versa, to help obtain the best, most cost-effective outcome for her clients. She represents policyholders, exclusively, in property and liability insurance coverage and insurance agent liability litigation. She also prosecutes and defends environmental and complex commercial claims. Joanne counsels both start-ups and established businesses on corporate governance matters. She also represents buyers and sellers in commercial real estate and other business transactions focusing on deals that have environmental concerns.

Joanne currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for Heritage Place of Indianapolis, Inc. and is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and Indiana State Bar Association.

Andrea Townsend focuses her practice in the areas of environmental law, real estate, and business law, serving as a one-stop shop for her clients in transactions and complex litigation including cost recovery. She additionally focuses a portion of her practice on appeals, having participated from both the judicial and advocacy perspectives in Indiana’s state appellate courts and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Andrea is active in the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA), Indianapolis Bar Association, and Indianapolis American Inn of Court, most recently serving as Chair of the ISBA Litigation Section. She also is highly involved with the IndyCREW (Indianapolis Commercial Real Estate Women) network and the Indianapolis Sailing Club, serving as Rear Commodore, board member, Chair of the Women on the Water program, and Club Historian. She previously served as President of her homeowners’ association’s board of directors and enjoys volunteering for programs promoting civic competence and responsibility such as the We the People competition for students.
