Joanne R. Sommers Elected Heritage Place of Indianapolis, Inc. Board President

By

Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP (PSRB) is pleased to announce that Joanne R. Sommers has been elected President of the Board of Directors for Heritage Place of Indianapolis, Inc. She will serve in this role for 2 years. Joanne has been a member of the Heritage Place Board since 2017 and previously served as the Board’s Vice President (2019-2021) and Secretary (2018-2019). Joanne also co-chaired the committee for the organization’s largest fundraiser, Hoosier Heritage Night, from 2018-2020.

Heritage Place of Indianapolis is a non-profit organization founded in 1976 by the Butler Tarkington and Meridian Kesler neighborhood associations to offer social, recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities to persons 55 years of age and older living in these neighborhoods. Funding to start the organization came from a 1976 recreational grant from the Indianapolis Department of Parks and Recreation. By 1978, the Board of Directors consulted with community leaders to expand Heritage Place into a multi-service senior program. Today, Heritage Place reaches more than 1,000 older adults each year in Indianapolis, Marion County, and surrounding communities.  Programs focus on life-long education, fitness, companionship, fellowship, and community resources information.

Heritage Place of Indianapolis Executive Director, Ed Alexander says “Joanne is a natural visionary leader who is committed to the mission of Heritage Place of Indianapolis.  She leads by example and encourages board engagement, all bringing the unique and important services of Heritage Place to the forefront in our community.  Heritage Place began its impressive legacy in 1976, it is Joanne’s goal as Board President to ensure the organization not only continues to provide the best services possible but will adapt to meet the ever-changing needs of older adults over the course of the next 45 years!”
