Administrative Adjudication

We have one of the state's most widely-known administrative adjudication practices. Our firm has won some of the most important appeals in the state's history in the area of administrative procedure. We have been involved in numerous administrative appeals involving challenges and defense of permit decisions, enforcement actions, and in seeking the review of agencies' failure to act. In Indiana Department of Natural Resources v. United Refuse Co., Inc., after losing before the administrative law judge and Natural Resources Commission, we were successful in establishing, as a matter of first impression, the role of an administrative law judge as the trier of fact.

Federal & State Court

Our firm has litigated some of the most challenging and complex cases in Indiana history. Many of these cases have resulted in highly significant appellate decisions, such as the Kiger, Meyer v. Shell, Natural Gas Odorizing, Chemical Waste Management v. IDEM, Dana, Summit, United Refuse, and other decisions marked with an * in our list of cases. We also defended (and won) the largest toxic tort case in Indiana. Our litigation work includes our highly successful insurance coverage cases, which generally involve multiple sites, scores of defendants, and complex technical and legal issues. We also have litigated under virtually every significant environmental statute, as well as tort, wrongful death, product liability, land use and zoning, and commercial law cases. We have extensive preliminary injunction, administrative adjudication and class action experience. Our class action work includes successfully concluding some of the first and largest cases seeking recovery for consumers for mortgage and escrow overcharges. We also honored to be one of the law firms selected to represent Indiana in its case against tobacco companies which resulted in the State of Indiana receiving over $4 billion (see the complaint )
