Todd J. Janzen Who We Are

Todd J. Janzen, Partner Back to Attorney List

Todd J. Janzen represents buyers and sellers of commercial and industrial properties and other business assets in transactional, regulatory compliance and business litigation matters.  Todd also assists landowners with cost recovery and environmental clean up efforts.  When necessary, Todd will litigate to defend or pursue his client’s best interests, believing that a multi-disciplined attorney makes the best attorney.

Todd has a vibrant agricultural law practice.  Todd frequently represents owners and operators of confined feeding operations and other agricultural-related operations with transactional, regulatory compliance and enforcement matters.  He defends agricultural operations and other entities in environmental enforcement proceedings by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and other agencies and in private lawsuits.  In 2008, Todd defended a 1500 cow dairy farm from a nuisance suit in Lindsey v. DeGroot Dairy, LLC, 898 N.E.2d 1251 (Ind. Ct. App. 2009).  This case represents the most recent decision from an Indiana appellate court upholding Indiana’s Right to Farm Act.

Todd was a founding member and past chair of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Agricultural Law Section.  In 2008 he was selected by the Indiana Lt. Governor to serve on the Indiana Agricultural Regulatory Structure Task Force.   In 2010, he presented to the American Agricultural Law Association at its annual convention.  More recently, Todd was selected to serve as the General Counsel to the Indiana Professional Dairy Producers, an organization representing more than 200 dairy farmers in Indiana.  Todd regularly counsels dairy and other livestock producers on agricultural law topics.  Todd also authors an agricultural law blog titled Janzen Ag Law Blog where he frequently publishes articles about current agricultural law topics. In. 2012, Todd was selected to participate in Class 15 of the Agri-Institute's leadership program.

Todd was named as a Finalist in law for Indy's 2010 Best and Brightest. In 2011 and 2012, Todd was selected by Super Lawyers as an Indiana “Rising Star.”  Todd is a frequent author and speaker on agricultural, environmental, and commercial real estate topics.  He has been featured in the Indiana Lawyer, Agri-News, and Hoosier Ag Today radio program.

Todd is also actively involved in a number of community organizations, having served as a board member for Trinity Episcopal Church, Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding, Inc., and Mapleton Fall Creek Community Development Corporation, where he is currently the President of the board of directors.  He received his B.A. degrees, summa cum laude, from Bethel College of Kansas in 1995 and his J.D. from Indiana University Indianapolis - Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2002.  Todd is fluent in German, having studied in Marburg, Germany, and having worked at Siemens Corporation in Munich, Germany.
