Donna Marron has been elected Treasurer of a non-profit organization started in 2007 called The Indiana Coalition Acting to Suspend Executions (“INCASE”).
Under the leadership of Executive Director Will McAuliffe, INCASE seeks to educate the lawmakers and citizens of Indiana about the massive costs that death penalty litigation imposes on state and local resources as well as the systemic and nationally recognized flaws that call into question the fairness and consistency of Indiana’s administration of the death penalty. These basic flaws eliminate reasonable certainty that innocent persons are not being executed in Indiana or that the death penalty is reserved for the very worst offenders prosecuted here. INCASE does not seek to abolish the death penalty. It seeks, instead, a moratorium on executions in Indiana until specific and fundamental due process violations inherent in the way Indiana imposes the death penalty are corrected.
Donna’s interest in death penalty issues stems from her pro-bono representation, along with Peter Racher, of an inmate on Alabama’s death row in his post-conviction appeals.
